I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. At least, here in the states. I confess to being ignorant of National holidays in any other country than my own. Sorry. I know, I suck.
Anyway, I went to a family reunion in southwest Missouri. My parents live about an hour east of poor Joplin, but despite all the horrible weather leading up to that weekend, Saturday and Sunday were beautiful. Only downside for me were the mosquitos that made breakfast out of my legs.
Anyway, I was surprised to see that even though they are only 8 hours south and west of where I live, their growing season was so far ahead of ours. Plants that were just starting to bloom at home, like my Irises
had bloomed and faded down there. My mom showed my pictures of here Azalea bushes that were just full of blooms this spring. I expressed surprise that Azaleas could grow outside there (I'm very familiar with the nasty ice storms that part of Missouri is prone to) buy my aunt reminded me that they are a zone 6, and I am a 5. I feel so inadequate.
Anyways, before I left work on Friday, I was very excited to see that a large part had come in a really cool box. I had no way to get it home on Friday however. I kept my fingers crossed that it would be added to the pile of pallets to go to the recycling guys and I would be able to buy it off them for what he'd have given the company. Well, come Tuesday, when I returned to work, I was relieve to see my box still there. I was driving my Aunts SUV and knew that I plenty of room in the back seat to move the miscellaneous travel flotsam that was leftover from the weekend. So, imagine my delight when I saw my co-worker move the box not to the recycling pile, but to the garbage pile. Free stuff!!! I had him help me load it in the car and have positioned it in my yard thusly :
Isn't that a great box??!!! I was going to turn it into a raised bed, but now, I've got a number of these plastic tubs with things growing in them that I've set inside to discourage anyone from walking away with my box.
We're going to be very bohemian and not paint it. DH says he wants to put a layer of clear coat on it to protect it from weathering, and I'm okay with that.
